The Inter-Religious Council of Uganda (IRCU) has officially launched the National Mobilization for Peaceful, Free, Fair and Credible 2026 Elections, Stability, and Social Cohesion campaign.
The initiative aims to promote peace, unity, and tolerance as Uganda approaches the 2026 general elections.
The campaign brings together religious leaders, civil society organizations, and other key stakeholders to foster a culture of peace, stability, and social cohesion throughout the country.
Speaking at the launch, the Chairperson of IRCU His Grace Samuel Kazimba Mugalu who is also the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda emphasized the critical role of unity and collective responsibility in building a peaceful and stable nation.
Archbishop Kazimba said that this initiative is a timely reminder that all Ugandans must work together to build a just, equitable, and peaceful Uganda.
He urged the media, security agencies, and the public at large to avoid actions that could incite violence or lead to instability. Instead, he called on all citizens to uphold peace, tolerance, and respect for human rights.
Archbishop Kazimba also advised political candidates to conduct their campaigns responsibly, noting that reckless behavior during campaign periods can contribute to unrest.
The IRCU’s peace campaign marks a proactive step toward safeguarding Uganda’s democratic process and ensuring that the 2026 elections are peaceful and credible.
