Justice Simon Byabakama, Chairperson of the Uganda Independent Electoral Commission (EC), has called on all stakeholders to operate within the law to ensure peace and order during the 2026 general elections.
While speaking at the launch of the National Mobilization for Peaceful, Credible 2026 Elections, Stability, and Social Cohesion campaign organized by the Inter-Religious Council of Uganda (IRCU) in Mengo, Kampala, Byabakama emphasized the need to strictly follow electoral laws and regulations.
He pointed out that political parties, candidates, and their supporters must understand the legal framework governing elections and avoid acts that may disrupt the process such as violence, intimidation, and bribery.
Justice Byabakama applauded the IRCU for initiating a campaign aimed at promoting peace during the electoral period.
He urged media practitioners to remain professional by reporting accurately and impartially, warning that spreading false information and inflammatory statements could incite violence.
He also confirmed that the Uganda Police will be deployed by the Electoral Commission to ensure security before, during, and after the elections.
This campaign, spearheaded by IRCU, seeks to build a peaceful, tolerant, and united society as Uganda prepares for the 2026 general elections.
