Defence Minister urges calm amid ADF threats, assures public of UPDF readiness

Minister of Defence and Veterans Affairs, Jacob Markson Oboth

The Minister of Defence and Veterans Affairs, Jacob Markson Oboth, has urged Ugandans to remain calm and vigilant in light of potential security threats posed by the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF).

Speaking shortly after his nomination as Member of Parliament for West Budama Central Constituency, the Minister highlighted that Uganda’s military engagements in Somalia and other countries may make the nation a target for ADF-related attacks.

Despite these threats, Minister Oboth reassured the public that the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) is fully in control of the country’s security situation and that there is no need for panic or fear.

His remarks come after a suspected female suicide bomber was intercepted and fatally shot by UPDF near Kalerwe Market.

The suspect had reportedly been under surveillance for three days, and security forces acted swiftly to neutralize the threat and protect the public.

Addressing the role of the UPDF in the upcoming elections, the Minister explained that the military will only step in to support the police when necessary, particularly in situations where security challenges may exceed police capacity.

He called on all Ugandans to conduct themselves peacefully and responsibly throughout the electoral period to avoid the escalation of tensions and ensure a smooth and credible election process.
