Three senior government officials have been duly nominated to contest in the upcoming National Resistance Movement (NRM) party primaries ahead of the 2026 general elections.
The nominees include Vice President Jessica Alupo, who is vying for the Woman Member of Parliament seat for Katakwi District; Minister of State for Security, Jim Muhwezi, contesting for Member of Parliament for Rujumbura County; and Minister for Ethics and Integrity, Rose Lily Akello, who is seeking the Woman MP seat for Karenga District.
According to NRM Electoral Commission Chairperson, Dr. Tanga Odoi, the trio was nominated ahead of schedule to enable them to fulfill their official duties uninterrupted, even as the formal nomination process is slated to begin next week.
NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong called for calm among party members and urged all aspirants and supporters to follow the law throughout the primary process.
Vice President Alupo expressed confidence in her campaign, saying she is ready to face her challengers. Ministers Muhwezi and Akello also voiced optimism about securing victory in their respective races.
