Government promotes agricultural innovations to attract youth to farming

Minister of State for Animal Industry, Bright Rwamirama

The government is embracing technological innovations as a strategy to attract more young people into the agricultural sector, aiming to address persistent challenges such as low productivity and the perception of farming as a last resort.

This was revealed by the Minister of State for Animal Industry, Bright Rwamirama, who emphasized that technological knowledge is essential for anyone seeking to benefit meaningfully from agriculture.

Rwamirama highlighted several key innovations currently being promoted in the sector, including agroforestry, aquaculture, stress-tolerant crop varieties, and solar-powered irrigation systems.

These technologies, he said, are not only enhancing productivity but also modernizing the image of agriculture.

His remarks come ahead of the 31st Annual Agricultural Education Show, which will be hosted in Jinja District under the theme “Technological Innovations Driving Farm Wealth.”

By promoting innovation and supporting youth-led agricultural enterprises, the government aims to transform agriculture into a more viable, attractive, and wealth-generating sector for the younger generation.
