The Ministry of Health has reaffirmed Uganda’s strong public health surveillance and response system following misleading social media claims about a resurgence of COVID-19 cases.
In a press release issued today in Kampala, officials clarified that the country has not experienced any new wave of COVID-19 infections and that the situation remains stable and under control.
The Ministry attributed this continued stability to Uganda’s proactive health monitoring systems, which remain alert to emerging global health threats, including new COVID-19 variants.
Officials emphasized that the viral social media content circulating recently is based on outdated footage and does not reflect the current national health status.
Dr. Charles Olaro, Director General of Health Services, encouraged the public to stay informed through credible channels and maintain preventive health practices like regular hand washing and the use of sanitizers.
He also urged those with flu-like symptoms to seek early treatment.
Uganda’s initial response to the COVID-19 pandemic, beginning in March 2020, included swift lockdowns and strict health protocols.
While these measures effectively reduced the spread of the virus, they came with significant socioeconomic impacts particularly for low-income households.
Although the economy began recovering in the latter half of 2020, many Ugandans continue to feel the aftershocks.
The Ministry’s current message underscores its commitment to health security and public trust, urging Ugandans to avoid panic and rely on verified information from official government sources.
