NRM Ministers pick nomination forms as race for 2026 elections heats up

NRM Ministers pick nomination forms

On the third day of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) expression of interest exercise, several high-profile politicians have picked up nomination forms at the party’s Electoral Commission headquarters along Kyadondo Road in Kampala.

Among the prominent figures is Judith Nabakooba, Minister for Lands, Housing, and Urban Development, who is seeking the Mityana Woman Member of Parliament seat.

Nabakooba says her bid is driven by a desire to strengthen the Parish Development Model and protect land rights for residents. She also pledged to advocate for youth, market vendors, and underprivileged groups who feel left out of government programs.

“I want to amplify the voices of those who feel left behind and ensure they benefit from government initiatives,” Nabakooba stated.

Godfrey Kabbyanga, the State Minister for National Guidance, also picked forms to contest for the Bukonjo County West seat in Kasese District.

Kabbyanga said he is determined to “redeem Bukonjo” by addressing long-standing development and governance challenges in the area.

Fred Byamukama, the State Minister for Works and Transport and current MP for Bugangaizi in Kakumiro District, reaffirmed his commitment to fighting poverty in his constituency.

He expressed his intention to build on ongoing development efforts to improve livelihoods in the region.

“These leaders represent the commitment of the NRM to deliver transformative leadership across the country,” said Dr. Tanga Odoi, Chairperson of the NRM Electoral Commission.

He thanked all participants for maintaining a peaceful and orderly process during the exercise.

The expression of interest process continues to attract a growing number of candidates eyeing various positions ahead of the 2026 general elections.
