Museveni warns against foreign influence threatening Uganda’s stability

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni

President Yoweri Museveni has issued a strong warning against foreign interference, stating that it poses a threat to Uganda’s peace, stability, and sovereignty.

Delivering the State of the Nation Address at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds, President Museveni said that while Uganda values cooperation with other nations, any partnership must be based on mutual respect and non-interference in internal affairs.

“We shall not accept any form of external pressure that seeks to manipulate our internal systems,” he said. “Uganda is a sovereign nation, and we will protect our independence at all costs.”

The President emphasized that Uganda welcomes partnerships that are sincere and mutually beneficial, not exploitative.

He reiterated that any foreign engagement must align with the country’s priorities and the principles of the National Resistance Movement (NRM).

Museveni accused certain foreign actors of attempting to destabilize Uganda under the pretext of promoting democracy or human rights.

He said some of these efforts are designed to serve external political or economic interests rather than the needs of Ugandans.

“Some of these groups think they can influence our direction by hiding behind development aid or civil society,” he noted. “We know their intentions, and we are prepared to defend our national interests.”

Highlighting Uganda’s achievements in economic growth, security, and infrastructure development, Museveni said the country’s progress would not be compromised by foreign meddling.

He urged Ugandans to remain vigilant, united, and patriotic, warning against being used by external forces to sow division or unrest.

“Let no one deceive you. We have built this country with our own efforts. We cannot allow outsiders to reverse the progress we have made,” he said.

The President’s remarks come amid growing international attention on Uganda’s political environment.

Despite criticism from some foreign governments and organizations, Museveni affirmed that Uganda will chart its own path based on its values and long-term development goals.

He concluded his address by reaffirming the government’s commitment to peace, sovereignty, and sustainable development, and called on all citizens to support efforts to preserve national stability.
