Archbishop Emeritus Henry Luke Orombi has called on Ugandans to remain peaceful during the 2026 general elections, drawing inspiration from the Uganda Martyrs’ loyalty, courage, and love for Jesus.
Speaking at the Anglican site in Namugongo, Orombi emphasized that the same God who protected them in the past will continue to do so, encouraging Ugandans to embrace prayer for peaceful elections.
Archbishop Stephen Kazimba Mugalu highlighted pressing issues, including the need for a national health insurance scheme for better healthcare access, concerns over increasing drug abuse among youth, and efforts to safeguard church land from grabbing.
President Yoweri Museveni, who attended the event, thanked pilgrims for their participation and advised against mixing politics with denominational beliefs to prevent divisions.
Uganda Martyrs University will organize the 2026 Uganda Martyrs Day celebrations, as the country commemorates 140 years since the martyrs were killed.
