Bishop Zziwa Announces Pope Nuncio’s Transfer, Pays Tribute to Archbishop Bianco

Bishop Joseph Antony Zziwa, Chairman of the Uganda Episcopal Conference, has officially announced the transfer of Pope Nuncio, Archbishop Luigi Bianco to Slovakia and Slovenia

According to Bishop Zziwa, the news of Archbishop Bianco’s transfer was received on May 21, 2025, although it was not immediately confirmed.

Archbishop Bianco was appointed as the Pope Nuncio to Uganda in April 2019 by Pope Francis. 

During the Uganda Martyrs’ Day celebrations at Namugongo, Bishop Zziwa paid tribute to Archbishop Bianco for his contributions to the church and the country, wishing him blessings in his new mission.

In other news, Bishop Zziwa expressed gratitude to the government for its financial support towards the celebrations, with the Central government disbursing UGX 4.2 billion to support the event. 

The Catholic and Anglican communities each received UGX 2 billion, while the Muslim community received UGX 200 million.

Additionally, Bishop Zziwa announced that the Uganda Episcopal Conference had received guidelines from the Vatican on the Synod of Synodality, which would be shared with Christians through national and diocesan teams. 

He also launched the Martyrs Edition Good News Bible, produced in partnership with the Bible Society of Uganda.
