Bishop Kakooza sends blessings to pilgrims ahead of Uganda Martyrs day

Bishop of Lugazi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Christopher Kakooza

The Bishop of Lugazi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Christopher Kakooza, has extended journey mercies, blessings, and courage to all pilgrims traveling to the Catholic Shrine at Namugongo for this year’s Uganda Martyrs Day celebrations.

In a heartfelt message to pilgrims both within Uganda and abroad, Bishop Kakooza reflected on the theme inspired by the Jubilee Year declared by the late Pope Francis:
“Oh Lord, let me see again, I, Your pilgrim of hope.”

His message comes just six days before the annual June 3rd Uganda Martyrs Day, when millions of pilgrims typically gather at Namugongo to pray, reflect, and seek blessings from the sacred site where the Uganda Martyrs were killed for their faith.

Bishop Kakooza reminded all pilgrims that the true purpose of their journey should be spiritual renewal, prayer, and honoring the legacy of the Martyrs.

This year, Lugazi Diocese is the animating diocese for the national celebration and expects to lead over 25,000 foot pilgrims to Namugongo.

According to Msgr. Dr. Richard Kayondo, the Vicar General of Lugazi Diocese, the pilgrimage will begin on June 1st at 5:00 a.m., with the faithful expected to arrive at Namugongo by 4:00 p.m. the same day.

Upon arrival, the pilgrims will make a triumphant entry before celebrating mass.
