The government remains committed to strengthening food value chains as a strategy to address food surpluses and combat hunger across Africa, according to the Minister of Agriculture, Animal Industry, and Fisheries, Hon. Frank Tumwebaze.
Speaking at the opening of the 13th African Potato Association Conference at Speke Resort Munyonyo, Minister Tumwebaze emphasized the critical role of resilient value chains in improving food security and promoting agricultural sustainability.
The event is being hosted by Uganda’s National Agricultural Research Organization (NARO).
The Minister also called on African countries to remove unnecessary trade and transport barriers that hinder the efficient movement of food across borders, stressing the need for regional cooperation to ensure food reaches areas of need.
The conference, which brings together experts, researchers, and stakeholders from across the continent, is being held under the theme “Fostering a Climate for Sustainable Potato and Sweet Potato Value Chains.”
