The Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) has officially nominated two candidates, Hon. Jimmy James Akena and Dennis Adim Enap to vie for the party’s presidential flag bearer position ahead of the 2026 general elections.
According to the party’s Electoral Commission (EC) chairperson, Muhamood Kazimbiraine, three individuals initially expressed interest in the race.
However, only Akena and Enap met all the necessary requirements and are now authorized to campaign across the country and seek support from UPC delegates.
Kazimbiraine called on the candidates to conduct their campaigns with decorum, urging them to avoid character assassination, mudslinging, and holding irresponsible public gatherings.
He further encouraged the contenders to use the campaign period to effectively communicate the UPC’s vision and programs to the public, positioning them as superior to those of competing political parties.
Kazimbiraine also noted that the party elections will be held through district conferences.
A candidate will be declared the winner after securing at least one-third of the votes from all party district conferences, in accordance with Article 11.2(6) of the UPC constitution.
Meanwhile, Hon. Jimmy Akena has pledged to present strong, transformative ideas aimed at strengthening both the UPC and Uganda as a whole.
He expressed confidence that the party can be returned to power through a well-articulated and visionary agenda.
