NRM National Chairman’s Office celebrates gains in ongoing party structural elections

NRM

The Office of the National Chairman (ONC) of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) has today celebrated what it described as significant successes in the ongoing NRM internal structural elections.

The elections, which have so far been conducted at the village, parish, and sub-county levels, have seen the ONC secure a considerable number of positions.

Out of 72,000 villages, the ONC won 40,811 positions. At the parish level, it secured 153,200 out of 321,900 positions, while at the sub-county level, the office captured 28,981 out of a total 65,730 positions.

Speaking to a gathering of elected party leaders at the ONC offices in Kyambogo, Hadijah Namyalo, the National Coordinator of the ONC, commended the achievements but also raised concerns over interference in the election process.

She accused some Resident District Commissioners (RDCs) and Resident City Commissioners (RCCs) of acting on instructions from unnamed superiors to disrupt the elections an act she described as illegal and unacceptable.

Namyalo also alleged that the elections were infiltrated by unknown individuals who voted in favor of certain candidates, raising questions about the integrity of parts of the process.

Despite the challenges, Namyalo urged party delegates to remain vigilant and vote wisely in the upcoming district-level structural elections scheduled for this Friday.

She emphasized that the winners at this level will go on to face the opposition in future political contests, making the vote critical for the party’s broader strategy.
