The recent declaration of the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) as a registered political party by the Election Commission has sparked strong reactions from the party’s leadership.
At a press conference held at the party headquarters on Katonga Road in Kampala, spokesperson Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, who is also the Kira Municipality MP, urged the commission to expedite the process of issuing the official confirmation letter for the party’s registration.
Ssemujju expressed disappointment over what he described as a shift in focus from human rights advocacy to minority rights activism by certain individuals, which he said was diverting attention from key national issues.
Regarding the UPDF Amendment Bill, Ssemujju called on Ugandans to actively attend parliamentary sessions and hold their MPs accountable, particularly urging National Resistance Movement (NRM) members to prioritize the needs and interests of the people.
Party registrar Wafula Ogutti further called for greater unity among opposition leaders, emphasizing the importance of standing together against the ruling government.
Meanwhile, PFF Chairman Ambassador Wasswa Birigwa commented on the UPDF Bill, warning that its passage would involve the military in civilian affairs.
Birigwa also made a significant announcement—he officially left the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) to join PFF, signaling a shift in the political landscape.
