President Museveni applauds Bundibugyo farmers for embracing Cocoa and Palm Oil Enterprises

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has commended the people of Bundibugyo District for their commendable self-mobilization and adoption of profitable agricultural ventures such as cocoa and palm oil, without direct government initiation.

The President made the remarks during a visit to the farm of Mr. Bernard Kacuro, a model farmer based in Kanyantuwa Cell, Nyawungu Ward, Buganikere Town Council, Bwamba County.

Mr. Kacuro’s success exemplifies the district’s agricultural potential and innovation, driven largely by local initiative.

Unlike other regions where the National Resistance Movement (NRM) introduced seven priority agricultural enterprises including coffee, fruits, dairy, and poultry President Museveni noted that Bundibugyo residents independently embraced cocoa and palm oil cultivation by learning from practices in neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo.

The President lauded the district’s steady progress, particularly in rural communities far removed from urban influence.

He highlighted Mr. Kacuro’s farming success, noting that he earns approximately Shs 430 million annually from his 15-acre farm 12 acres under cocoa and 3 under palm oil.

Cocoa alone generates about Shs 60 million per season, demonstrating the high returns of well-managed agricultural investment.

As a gesture of support, President Museveni pledged to provide Mr. Kacuro with a Fuso truck and Shs 12 million to expand his dairy farming project.

He also committed to donating solar dryers to support local cocoa cooperatives in improving post-harvest handling and value addition.

The event was attended by the Minister of ICT and National Guidance, Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, along with local leaders, beneficiaries of the Parish Development Model (PDM), and other community stakeholders.
