The Joint Security Operation Command is intensifying efforts to ensure a safe and secure environment ahead of the Martyrs’ Day celebrations at Namugongo, where millions of pilgrims are expected to gather.
According to Police Spokesperson ACP Kituuma Rusoke, security agencies are actively reviewing and implementing strategies to address key concerns such as traffic congestion, health emergencies among pilgrims, lost children, and individuals lacking transportation back to their destinations.
Authorities are also on high alert for criminal elements, including impostors posing as priests to extort money from unsuspecting pilgrims, and dishonest accommodation providers suspected of theft.
Moreover, special attention is being given to deterring groups of youth engaged in petty theft under the operation locally known as “eggaali.”
Rusoke emphasized that these comprehensive measures are intended to ensure a peaceful and fulfilling experience for all participants in the annual religious event.
