Police are actively searching for the driver of a YY Coach bus that was involved in a deadly crash in Buikwe District after discovering he survived the accident.
The tragic incident occurred along the Katosi–Nyenga Road when the bus, en route from Kampala to Mbale, lost control, overturned, and burst into flames, leading to multiple fatalities and injuries.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash and are working to locate and apprehend the driver, who allegedly fled the scene.
State Minister for Transport Fred Byamukama has warned that YY Coaches could face a 30-day suspension if investigations confirm the company’s driver was responsible for the accident.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident in Yumbe District, police are also pursuing another YY Coach driver linked to a crash that claimed six lives.
The accident occurred when the driver reportedly lost control while ascending a mountainous road.
Both incidents have raised fresh concerns about road safety and the conduct of public transport operators in Uganda.
