NRM receives 57 petitions from recent flag bearer and structural elections – Dr. Tanga Odoi

Chairperson of the NRM Electoral Commission, Dr. Tanga Odoi

The Chairperson of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Commission, Dr. Tanga Odoi, has confirmed that the party has received a total of 57 election petitions arising from the recently concluded Local Council One flag bearer and structural elections.

Addressing the media during a briefing on the ongoing parish-level party elections, Dr. Tanga revealed that the majority of the petitions have already been resolved, with only three still pending determination after being submitted just a day prior.

Among the notable unresolved cases are those involving Lwemiyaga County MP Theodore Ssekikubo, Caleb Tumwesigyire from Kanungu District, and Asuman Kiyingi, who lodged a complaint regarding irregularities in the parish elections in Kamuli District.

According to Dr. Tanga, it was verified that some delegates were clandestinely transported and confined in a primary school in Kayunga District, leading to the suspension of elections in that area.

He emphasized that the petition related to this incident is now under review by NRM’s legal team.

Dr. Tanga also issued a stern warning, stating that candidates found guilty of electoral misconduct could face disqualification from the race.

The party’s internal electoral process continues as NRM seeks to ensure transparency and integrity within its structures.
