The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential nomination exercise experienced significant delays on Wednesday due to the late arrival of aspirants.
Originally scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m., the process did not start until 2:37 p.m., with only one of the six expected aspirants, Eng. Patrick Oboi Amuriat (POA), present at the time.
Despite the slow start, incumbent FDC President Patrick Oboi Amuriat successfully submitted his nomination papers and was officially declared fully nominated by the party’s Electoral Commission chairperson, Boniface Toterebuka Bamwenda.
In his remarks, Amuriat emphasized key themes including democratic leadership, peaceful and joint campaigns, and his confidence in securing victory.
Shortly after POA’s address, the party’s Secretary General, Nathan Nandala Mafabi, arrived and completed his nomination process before the same commission chairperson.
The nomination exercise and the ensuing campaigns will determine who the FDC’s presidential flag bearer becomes.
Other aspirants—Dan Matsiko, Usaama Ssemogerere, Gerald Malinga, and Arinest Bumba—are yet to submit their nomination papers as of press time.
