Archbishop Ssemogerere condemns child abandonment, launches fundraising walk for Nsambya Babies Home

His Grace Paul Ssemogerere, the Archbishop of Kampala who has led the Christmas Eucharistic Celebration addressing the media

The Archbishop of Kampala, Paul Ssemogerere, has condemned the act of abandoning children.

He noted this while launching the 3rd edition of the Nsambya Babies Home Fundraising Christ Walk held at Lubaga.

His Grace Ssemogerere said that because of the increasing number of abandoned children, one of the avenues to collect funds is holding the walk, where companies, institutions, and individuals contribute.

He called on the faithful during this jubilee year, with the theme “Pilgrims of Hope,” to extend that hope to children.

The Home Administrator, Sr. Teddy Nakyanzi, stated that they have established a fund to ensure the sustainability of this work, aiming for long-term self-reliance over the next five years.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Police Spokesperson Kampala Metropolitan, SP Luke Owoyesigyire, who also attended the occasion, revealed that the number of abandoned children has reduced in Kampala Metropolitan compared to previous years.

He added that the time when the number increases significantly is during the 3rd June Martyrs Day celebrations.

Among the companies that have assured their support and contribution towards the cause is Centenary Bank with 20 million shillings, Pax Insurance Company Ltd, Uganda Prisons, MTN Uganda, PepsiCo, among others.

The current total number of children given care at Nsambya Babies Home is 26, where 17 are boys and 9 are girls, ranging from about two months to about 6 years old.

Furthermore, medical care has significantly improved since they began the fundraising campaign efforts.
