MP Namugga calls for regulation of labor externalization as Uganda celebrates Labour Day

Mawogola South Member of Parliament, Gorret Namugga

Mawogola South Member of Parliament, Gorret Namugga, has raised concerns over the unregulated externalization of labor and called for the establishment of a comprehensive labor externalization policy.

Her remarks come as Uganda joins the world in commemorating International Labour Day at Nakaale Grounds in Nakapiripiriti District, under the theme “Consolidating on the Gains of the Parish Development Model (PDM) for Increased Productivity and Inclusive Job Creation.”

Addressing the press at Parliament, Namugga emphasized that Ugandan workers abroad are facing continuous exploitation and violations of their rights due to the lack of regulation in labor externalization.

She called for a well-structured policy to protect the welfare of these workers and ensure their rights are upheld.

Namugga also expressed concern about the challenges facing Uganda’s informal sector, noting that high taxes and production costs have forced many businesses to close.

She urged the government to provide more support to this sector to help it thrive and contribute to economic growth.

Furthermore, Namugga appealed to the government to consider reducing lending interest rates at commercial banks.

She suggested that lower interest rates would make it easier for entrepreneurs to access loans, enabling them to sustain and expand their businesses, ultimately boosting the economy.

The Labour Day celebrations at Nakaale Grounds underscored the importance of consolidating development gains and promoting inclusive job creation in Uganda.
