The government has refuted allegations that it owes Buganda Kingdom 500 billion shillings in rent and lease arrears.
During yesterday’s session of the Parliamentary Budgets Committee, Muwanga Kivumbi, Chairperson of the Buganda Parliamentary Caucus and MP for Butambala County, claimed that the government had failed to honor its obligations to the Kingdom.
However, on Wednesday in the same committee, State Minister for Finance Henry Musasizi clarified that, following a thorough audit, the government actually owes Buganda Kingdom 160 billion shillings not 500 billion as previously stated by MP Kivumbi.
Minister Musasizi also announced that the government has allocated 120 billion shillings in the upcoming financial year to partially settle some of the outstanding payments, including compensations owed to the Kingdom.
