Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re, Dean of the College of Cardinals, in Rome

The Catholic Church in Uganda conveys special condolence message to Rome for the repose of Pope Francis.

In a message sent to Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re, Dean of the College of Cardinals, in Rome, signed by the Chairman Uganda Episcopal Conference Rt. Rev. Dr. Joseph Antony Zziwa, the Catholic Bishops in Uganda, described Pope Francis as a shepherd who has exhibited unwavering Pastoral zeal, won affection of many, Christ’s compassion and love to all.

They will also live to remember his encouragement to the Catholic shepherds to serve with humility.

He made 47 apostolic journeys around the globe including the one to Uganda in November 2015, where heurged Ugandans to live out the legacy of the Uganda Martyrs through justice, compassion, and service to the poor.

He emphasized the importance of remembering the martyrs and continuing to witness their faith. The Pope also cautioned against losing spiritual foundations and reminded people that once a religious person stops praying, they start to lose their memory and fidelity.
