The Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa has called upon religious leaders across Uganda to emulate the late Pope Francis in promoting peace, humanity, and unity.
Tayebwa made the remarks on 25th April 2025 while paying his respects and signing the condolence book at Lubaga Cathedral, following the passing of Pope Francis.
He praised the late Pope for his unwavering commitment to peace, noting that even during his illness, Pope Francis continued to pray for war-torn regions around the world.
Tayebwa emphasized that the most meaningful way to honor the legacy of Pope Francis is by ending conflicts globally noting that the world is vast enough for everyone, and reminded leaders that in the end, we all leave the world the same way.
He added that the end of conflicts would also mark an end to the refugee crises around the world, echoing Pope Francis’s lifelong advocacy for displaced populations.
Tayebwa also praised the Pope’s firm stance on the sanctity of life, particularly his vocal opposition to abortion urging both political and religious leaders to uphold this cause and continue advocating for the protection of all life.
In addition, Tayebwa highlighted the late Pope’s environmental advocacy, urging the public and leaders alike to prioritize the protection of the environment for the sake of future generations.
