The Speaker of Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Council, Maala Zahara Luyirika, has expressed her condolences to the Catholic Church following the passing of Pope Francis.
She emphasized the importance of praying for the guidance of the Holy Spirit as the Conclave prepares to elect a new Pope.
Reflecting on her experiences during Pope Francis’s visit to Uganda in 2015, Luyirika highlighted the significant investments made to beautify the city, which not only elevated the appearance of Kampala but also demonstrated the Catholic Church’s considerable contributions to the social, economic, and political development of the city and the nation as a whole.
However, Luyirika also voiced her concerns regarding the management of KCCA, criticizing them for failing to preserve the positive memories and experiences associated with high-profile visits.
She pointed out that taxpayers’ money has been spent in vain, suggesting that the management has not adequately honored the significance of such visits.
As the community mourns the loss of a beloved leader, Luyirika’s remarks serve as a reminder of the responsibility to honor and build upon the contributions made by Pope Francis.
