The opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) says it will fully participate in the 2026 general elections by filling candidates in all elective positions including a presidential candidate.
This has been announced by the Party President Patrick Oboi Amuriat during his beginning of year presser held at the party headquarters at Najjanankumbi on Wednesday.
Amuriat said that the party is planning to have a delegate’s conference in June to plan well for the elections as well as voting a suitable candidate for the presidential race and in late January 2025 they are resuming party countywide mobilization tours.
He called upon all party members who defected to return home such that they build a strong party to fulfill their goal of taking state power and said already many are asking to be readmitted into the party.
Amuriat has challenged the National Electoral Commission to carefully handle the upcoming registration and display of the national voters’ register which will run from January 20th to February 10th 2025 such that people participate fairly.
He condemned the EC for the limited time allocated for the process saying many voters will be left out although he encouraged the young voters to embrace the registration such that they participate fully in the electoral processes.
Meanwhile, the FDC has revealed that it will join other political parties in contesting in the race to replace the fallen Kawempe North Member of Parliament, Muhammad Ssegirinya.
The FDC President, Patrick Oboi Amuriat, says that they are still monitoring the situation in Kawempe North and looking for a suitable candidate to front due to the fact that the one they had in the 2021 elections left the party.
Amuriat says they are taking on the race in Kawempe North at a slower pace in respect to the late MP’s family which is still grieving and still need time to heal from the impact of the loss of their loved one.
