The Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Norbert Mao says he will talk to President Yoweri Museveni about his recent directive of banning police bonds.
In his New Year’s address to the nation, President Museveni directed the police to stop granting bond to suspects and curtailing court bails.
However, while addressing the media at the party’s offices at Balintuma Road in Rubaga Division, Kampala; Mao referred to the President’s statement as his own thoughts and lamentations that are outside the rule of law on which the country is governed.
He said police bonds and court bails are constitutional which need to be protected and can only be done away with through an amendment in parliament not a presidential directive.
