Hundreds of faithful have turned up at the Mother House of the Little Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi Nkokonjeru to witness the 48 brides who have taken vows and celebrated years of service as religious Catholic Sisters.
The celebrations marked every 6th of January at the Mother House in Nkokonjeru, Lugazi diocese, Buikwe District has been led by the Ordinary of Diocese, Rt. Rev. Christopher Kakooza.
In his homily, Bishop Kakooza has congratulated the Religious Sisters for their dedication to serve the Lord by reaching out to the poor and the needy with love.
He says the world is always searching for the God given gifts for humanity that is; justice, peace and love which the religious and all faithful must give to each other.
The same Eucharistic celebration has been graced by the Archbishop of Kampala, His Grace Paul Ssemogerere, the Bishop of Kasana Luweero diocese, Rt. Rev. Lawrence Mukasa, the Bishop of Soroti diocese, Rt. Rev. Joseph Eciru, the Vicar Generals of Kampala and Lugazi Msgrs; Charles Kasibante and Dr. Richard Kayondo respectively among other priests.
Out of The 48 brides, 26 are from Uganda where 5 are celebrating their Golden Jubilees, 11 are marking Silver Jubilees and 10 took their perpetual vows.
The five sisters who are celebrating Golden Jubilees include; Sr. Teopista Namirembe from Lugazi diocese, Sr. Ann Christine from Soroti diocese, Sr. Stephania Nalubowa from Lugazi diocese, Sr. Mary Pauline Namuddu from Masaka diocese who served as the Superior General and Head Teacher of St. Josephs Girls S.S.S Nsambya and Sr. Antonia Namuli from Lugazi diocese.
The Institute was founded by Mother Mary Kevin Kearney (an Irish missionary nun) in 1923 as a Third Order Regular Institute in Uganda and has since expanded to Kenya, Tanzania, USA and Germany were other brides have come from.
