Over 1,500 People Relocated from Landslide Hit Bulambuli Area

Over 1,500 people have been relocated from Bulunganya Sub County Buduuka

Over 1,500 people have been relocated from Bulunganya Sub County Buduuka to Bunambutye Sub County in Bulambuli district following last week’s landslide in the area that claimed several lives.

The landslide on Wednesday night last week that left over 20 people killed and at least 100 others missing in the eastern district of Bulambuli.

Among the five most affected villages with the landslide include; Musungu village in Bulunganya Sub-County in Elgon sub region.

While speaking to the press during the ongoing NRM Manifesto Implementation Week at the office the Prime Minister, the Premier Robinah Nabbanja explained that as of Monday, 1,500 people from 241 households had been relocated to Bunambutye.

She notes that they have now embarked on sensitizing Ugandans living in dangerous areas of Mountains Elgon and Rwenzori to adhere to early warning systems to avoid scenarios of similar nature like the one which happened on November 27th 2024.

Meanwhile, the death toll from the Bulambuli mudslide tragedy has risen to 28 people following the discovery of 8 more bodies from the mudslide with the help of 500 UPDF officers on Monday.

Although the extraction work to recover the missing bodies has been worsened due to bad terrain and the weather, Nabbanja has promised that the acquired excavator will quicken their operations.
