More Boys Sit for UACE Exams as they Commence Countrywide

In the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) examinations that commenced on Monday, over 80,000 male candidates have sat for the papers compared to the 61,000 female counterparts.

According to the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB), a total of 142,009 candidates registered for the UACE examinations this year compared to the 110,569 of 2023, signifying an increase of 22.1 %.

Jennifer Kalule Musamba, the UNEB Spokesperson says that the 61,968 female candidates represent 43.6%, while the 80,041 male candidates constitute 56.4 %.

She adds that 106,348 candidates (74.8 %) are privately sponsored while 35,661 candidates (25.1 %) are sponsored by the Government under the Universal Post Level Education and Training (UPOLET) Program, which is a big number compared to last year’s where it they were only 24,679.

Kalule adds that they have deployed 991 contracted professionals to oversee the examinations along with 470 security personnel to monitor the exams that are conducted in 2,634 centres.

Meanwhile, UNEB have noted the Primary Seven exams and the pioneer assessment for the New Lower Secondary Curriculum ended successfully last week amidst a few glitches of malpractice handled by the police.
