Gov’t Asks Universities to Focus on Research to Transform the Country

acting Executive Secretary of the Uganda National Council for Science and Technology Dr. Martin Patrick Ongol

Government seeks to have universities produce research that can lead to production of fresh knowledge based goods and services.

According to the acting Executive Secretary of the Uganda National Council for Science and Technology (UNCST), Dr. Martin Patrick Ongol, the country’s research and development ecosystem shows that the level of production of new goods and services is very low.

Ongol said this while officiating at the Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) 15th Annual Research Conference 2024 at Nkozi today.

He noted that there is a need to adopt technology foresight and ensure research is fully implemented in the production of competitive quality production of goods and services to foster sustainable development of the country.

Prof. Patrick Kyamanywa, the UMU Vice Chancellor at the same function declared that the university is moving to have graduating students in the coming three years produce research pieces with their implementations.
