A section of Members of Parliament has called for a forensic audit on the decision by the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) to pull down the recent National Population and Housing Census results from their official communication platforms due to errors.
Speaking to Butambala Woman Representative Aisha Kabanda and Nakaseke Central MP Allan Mayanja Ssebunya, they labeled the exercise a sham and accused UBOS Administrators of incompetence.
The MPs argue that the errors and subsequent removal of the results reflect poor management, particularly considering the significant amount of taxpayers’ money to a tune of over shs 800 billion which was spent on the census.
They have henceforth demanded for clear accountability and transparency in the handling of public funds.
This follows the UBOS Executive Director Dr. Chris Mukiza on Tuesday October 8th 2024 rejecting calls for his resignation following the errors which were witnessed in the recently released report of the 2024 National Population and Housing Census.
This as he addressed a media breakfast meeting at Serena Hotel Kampala and noted that the mistakes in the results were common errors, which he said would not have an impact on the final statistical results.
Mukiza said that despite the errors the results will serve as the official data guiding Uganda’s national planning until the next census in 2034.
