The Democratic Party (DP) has disassociated itself from the activities of the DP-Block pressure group that recently endorsed Mathias Mpuuga as their 2026 Presidential flag bearer.
The acting DP Spokesperson, Ismail Kiirya told journalists on Tuesday at their offices at Balintuma Road in Mengo, Kampala that the party has no working relations with members of the purported DP-Block and will never follow an agenda of such opportunists.
Kiirya adds that DP constitutionally elects its presidential flag bearer through a Delegates’ Conference which they hope to hold before the end of this year.
He therefore calls upon all DP members to disassociate from such groups and their activities because they are unproductive.
Meanwhile, theDemocratic Partyhas challenged the newly appointed acting Executive Director of the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), Frank Nyakana Rusa and his colleagues; Robert Nowera, the acting deputy Executive Director and Sarah Zalwango, the acting Director of Public Health to desist from following the misdeeds of their predecessors.
It should be recalled thatlast week on Tuesday September 24th 2024, the Presidential Press Unit released a statement where President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni sacked the former office bearers; Dorothy Kisaka, her deputy Eng. David Luyimbazi Ssali and Dr. Daniel Okello over negligence exhibited in relation to the Kiteezi Landfill disaster, according to findings in a report by the Inspector General of Government (IGG).
Kiirya says that the new appointees, although in acting capacity of three months, should work with utmost integrity in order to avoid mistakes of their predecessors and should be careful when dealing with the “mafias” who sometimes want them to act on their orders.
However, Kiirya calls for increment of the KCCA budget to allow for proper execution of the Authority’s duties.
Government allocated shs 1.135 trillion to KCCA in the 2024/2025 financial year budget.
