Radio Sapientia’s 2024 Catechism Competition Climaxes

Winners of the Radio Sapientia religious quiz show dubbed “Akabbinkano ka Katikiisimu 2024” have been crowned at the climax of the competition that ran on air for a period of two and a half months.

The function held at the Sharing Youth Center, Nsambya was attended by hundreds of people who included the clergy, religious and lay faithful.

The event began with a Holy Mass led by the National Director of Caritas Uganda, Rev. Fr. Hillary Muhezangango, who in his homily noted that in life other things can easily be changed apart from religion and culture.

He noted that culture and religion have values which are not contradictory, calling upon the faithful to maintain them.

He advised that people have a mutual respect for each other and collectively work together because it has been observed that the more people become more advanced, the more they become more selfish which has affected people globally.

He said according to the gospel from Mark, that true greatness comes from true service especially to the most vulnerable and marginalized, especially the poor.

On the main event of the day which is the “Akabbinkano ka Katikiisimu” he thanked Radio Sapientia for coming up with such a brilliant idea that has awakened many Catholics not only to learn more about their faith but also in terms of development.

He emphasized that the Catholic Church is strongly focusing on human integral development so that all people live a better life.

The competition had two categories; one for adults and for children.

In the adult category, Pius Muwanika from Nabitalo Catholic Parish in Kampala Archdiocese was crowned the winner after scoring 40 points and was awarded with a brand new UG-Boss Motorcycle from Simba Automotives Limited, followed by Pius Muyobo from St. Gonzaga Gonza Kamuli Parish in Kampala Archdiocese with 26 points and was awarded a sofa set from Yo Furniture Workshop, and the second runners up was John Ssennyange from St. Agnes Kibuye-Makindye Parish with 22 points and grabbed himself a 32-inch flat screen TV set.

Others that followed were Joseph Ssentongo from Ggaba Parish who scored 10 points and was awarded a Woofer and the only lady who made it to the final, Cleophas Mwekwasize from Mapeera-Nabulagala Parish came 5th after scoring 4 points.

In the children’s category, Jacob Ssemawano from Bujuuko Parish came first with 46 points, and was crowned and awarded with a deep freezer, he was followed by Felista Nansereko, a primary six pupil from Nansana Parish with 34 points who was awarded a 32-inch flat screen TV set and a scholarship from Mt. Carmel Primary School Busega.

In third position was Joseph Bukenya from Busunju Parish in Kiyinda-Mityana Diocese with 30 points, he was given a popcorn machine, and Martha Namukwaya from Nansana Parish scored 28 points and received a Woofer then.

The kids’ category was rounded off by Alan Yiga, the youngest of all aged nine years, a primary three pupil from St. Joseph Busunju Parish, Kiyinda-Mityana diocese who scored 24 points and was awarded a bag full of scholastic materials and was also awarded a scholarship from Mt. Carmel Primary School Busega.

In his remarks, the Guest of Honour, the Bukoto Central Member of Parliament, Eng. Richard Ssebamala commended Radio Sapientia for organizing this competition which he said is not only strengthening people in their faith but it is also a wakeup call to people to know and promote their faith.

He proposed that next year’s Akabbinkano ka Katikiisimu competition starts from the level of the Small Christian Communities (Obubondo) to Sub Parish and Parish level.

He pledged to sponsor the coming competitions with over 50 million shillings so that this starts in parishes such as  Kkindu, Lwaggulwe, Bbuuliro, Buyaga, and Kabuwoko, all in Bukoto Central, as well as Busunju Parish and Bisanje in Masaka Diocese.

In his message delivered by the Station Manager Francis Jjunju, the Managing Director of Radio Sapientia, Rev. Fr. Dr. Joseph Mark Lubula extended his appeal to parents to know their responsibility of preaching evangelization to their children to enable them have a better future.

He asked them to listen to 94.4 FM Radio Sapientia’s well prepared programs for words of wisdom which aid the holistic upbringing of their children.

Among the sponsors of Akabbinkano ka Katikiisimu 2024 was St. John the Baptist Ggaba Primary Teachers College, Simba Automotives Ltd, Njeru Properties Ltd, Buganda Royal Institute of Business and Technical Education Kakeeka-Mengo, Mt. Carmel Primary School Busega, among others.
