The Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) has confirmed to have invited President Yoweri Museveni to officiate the Apolo Milton Obote Memorial (AMO) Lecture as the party engages in negotiations with government over good governance.

Last year, it was reported that UPC under the leadership of Lira Municipality Member of Parliament (MP) Jimmy Akena resolved to formalize its alliance with NRM party during a cabinet meeting that took place in June 2016.

Addressing the media in Kampala today, the UPC Spokesperson Michael Osinde clarifies that they have never allied with the National Resistance Movement (NRM) but only hold engagements regarding health, education and good transition of power.

He maintains that the party doesn’t support the lifting of presidential age limit and also condemns the fracas that appeared in Parliament two week back between the opposition legislatures and the Special Force Command (SFC) soldiers.

However, the Chairman Organizing Committee for Friends of Apolo Milton Obote Memorial lecture Dr. Moses Apiliga confirms Museveni’s invitation and other political leaders as well as Prof. Patrick Loch Otien Lumuba, former Director of Kenya Law School to be the Guest Speaker.

The Lecture is slated on October 17th at Sheraton Hotel in Kampala aimed at remembering Obote’s success during his governance.
