The Uganda Human Rights Commission -UHRC tribunal sessions have officially resumed on Monday after taking a while without seating.

The session was led by the Chairperson of the Commission, Mariam Wangadya who gave orders on four cases which attracted compensation and two others that were left pending on grounds of clarity.

According to Ida Nakiganda, the Director Legal Services of the Commission, 50 cases in total will be heard from all the 12 regional offices around the country.

She says they stand a backlog of 1,700 cases from all over the country with the oldest dating from 2004.

Nakiganda is however confident that all the cases will be handled since the panel is fully constituted with the four members who include the Chairperson Mariam Wangadya, Omara Apita, Steven Basaliza and Shifrah Lukwago.

The tribunal had ceased to function ever since the passing on of its former Chairperson; Med Ssozi Kaggwa in November 2019.
