Uganda has joined the rest of the world to commemorate the Day for Street Children, with a call to parliament by the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development to pass the 3.4bnshs budget needed to take those children from the streets.

In a voice statement released by the Minister of State for Children and Youth Affairs, Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi, the budget is expected to be considered once parliament returns from the recess on April 23rd.

Hundreds of children are estimated to be living on the streets of Kampala and many of them are said to be from Karamoja region.

Nakiwala also reveals that a new law is in offing against those who are taking advantage of the vulnerability of the street children to have them deployed to beg for money after issuing Child Care guide that restrict people from keeping kids they are not related too.
