Kampala Capital City Authority KCCA preliminary budget framework paper indicates that the Authority will need a total of 325.44 bn shs for the financial year 2020/2021

This has been revealed by the Acting Director for the Treasury at KCCA Don Kitabire before the council sitting chaired by the Deputy Lord Mayor Sarah Kanyike saying that out of the estimated budget, 294.94 bn Shs will be from the central government, 30.5 bn Shs will be from the Uganda Road Fund, no external funding is expected.

The budget has provided 69 bn Shs for the divisions as a result of devolution.

However, a number of councilors did not support the budget saying it is ever reducing from over 650 bn shs to now 300 bn shs even after meeting several meetings with President Museveni showing him the need for more funds to run the city, according to one Moses Okwera the Nakawa 1 city councilor.

In response, the Acting Deputy Executive Director Samuel Sserunkuuma revealed that it’s the responsibility of the elected leaders to lobby for funds that will run the institution.

The council sitting was also updated on the budget releases for the financial year 2019/2020 by the national treasury that out of 551 bn shillings they have so far received 283.62 bn of which 121 bn shs has been spent leaving a balance of 150 bn shs.
