As countries in the East African Community (EAC) region are slowly opening their skies, tour operators in Uganda are also asking president Museveni to be clear on when the country will open the airport and borders.

Countries like Rwanda and Kenya in the region have already resumed foreign flights but Uganda still remains silent on when the airport will be re-opened to commercial flights.

The chairperson, Uganda Tour Operators Association, Everest Kayondo says, that continued uncertainty when the airport will be re-opened continues to impact negatively on the country’s tourism sector.

He further explains that most hotels and lodges which rely on hosting tourists have not  had any business for the last four months with most of their staff laid off and other hotels around Kampala now operating below 10% guest occupancy.

Kayondo is of the view that when the airport is re-opened, the tourism sector will see more chances of coming back.
