The 9 day special prayers ahead of the Uganda martyrs day celebrations every June 3rd , Novena has been concluded today at the Catholic Shrine Namugongo, under the theme; “Like the Uganda Martyrs full of faith, hope and love, we shall overcome”.

 

In the final mass led by the Episcopal Vicar of Mitalamaria Fr. Denis Kizito, he has challenged Ugandans and Christians in particular to strive for God’s message at the time when the whole world is silenced by the deadly COVID-19 Pandemic.

Reflecting on Saint Yoana Maria Mzee the patron for Doctors, Nurses and Patients Fr. Kizito said everyone is called to bear one another, fight for justice, equity and equality that bring love and peace.

The Novena started on Sunday 24th May, having reflections on different Uganda Martyrs who are also patrons for different professional calling.

The Chairman Uganda Episcopal Conference Rt. Rev. Dr. Joseph Anthony Zziwa on May 3rd announced that it would not be possible for the Catholic Church to hold the usual June 3rd Uganda Martyrs Day celebrations but each diocese through the ordinary was allowed to make silent preparations on that day to help the faithful pray and observe the day.

In Kampala Archdiocese Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga will lead the June 3rd Mass celebrations of the Uganda martyrs at the Catholic Shrine Namugongo this Wednesday at 10am.
