The 2019 corruption perception index report released by transparency international Uganda indicates that Uganda has made slight progress in the fight against corruption.

 

The country has moved 12 positions down to 137 from 149 position in 2018 report out of the 180 countries.

 

In Africa somalia has been ranked as the most corrupt country scoring 9% followed by South Sudan with 12%  and Sudan with 16% among others.

 

In East Africa Rwanda has once again emerged the least corrupt country scoring 51%,Tanzania scoring 37%,Uganda and Kenya scored 28%.

 

While releasing the report the executive director for Transparency international Uganda Peter Wandera notes that Uganda’s progress is attributed to government increased pronouncements against corruption, filing of more cases about corruption in courts of law , new measures set against corruption like the institution of state house anti corruption unit among others.

 

He recommends that government should improve and properly enforce campaign finance regulation especially this time when the country is gearing for 2021 general elections .

 

The theme for 2019 report is political integrity ,contesting and exercising power consistently acting in public interest and providing equal ,open and meaningful access to the effected stakeholders.
