With just a day to cerebrate “World Teachers’ day tomorrow October 05th, Uganda National Teachers’ Union (UNATU) has expressed concern over their operational environment.

Addressing the media this morning the general Secretary UNATU Filbert Bates Baguma, noted among other challenges; laxity in the teacher recruitment processes, issue of staff ceilings, low motivation, discriminatory salary levels, high pupil teacher ratios, use of unqualified teachers, precarious contracts, absence of career progression, unclear procedures in handling their retirement and fridge benefits.

The main cerebration will be held at St Legos play ground Kyekobe Fort portal municipality under the theme “The right to education means the right to a qualified teacher”

Now Baguma wants government through the ministry of education to adopt national teacher policy, implementation of social dialogue framework, management of teachers’ retirement and payroll, appointment of school heads to ensure, quality service.
