Government through the Ministry of Health has revealed that the new Tuberculosis infections stands at over 89000 cases recorded every year compared to 60,000 HIV/AIDS cases.

Addressing journalists after the launching of the National TB and Leprosy Programme National Annual Conference in Kampala, the Minister for Health Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng says that this new infection prevalence excludes the 40,000 cases that go undetected.

She adds that of the 19,000 Multi Drug Resistant for Tuberculosis cases, Kampala and Lira district share the biggest number.

Meanwhile, US Ambassador to Uganda H.E Deborah Malac expressed her worry of having thousands of Ugandans dying of TB yet the disease is treatable, curable and preventable.
