Security agencies last evening sealed off two premises in Luweero district where they arrested two Muslim Clerics over unclear reasons.

Those arrested are Sheikh Swaibu Segujja, the Assistant Secretary for Zakat under the Luweero Muslim District who is also the Imam in charge of Butanza Masjid in Katikamu Sub-County and Sheikh Muhammed Ssemwanga, the Imam in Charge of Lusenke Masjid in Wobulenzi Town Council.

Sheikh Ramadhan Mulindwa Nsanja, the Luweero district Kadhi under the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) confirmed the development adding that the arrests were done yesterday afternoon by heavily armed security operatives who were travelling in a Toyota Hiace infamously labelled ‘drone’.

The operatives first raided the home of Sheikh Segujja at Butanza village in Katikamu Sub-County where he was picked from along with his wife and mother before raiding Kituntu village in Nakaseke district where they also picked Sheikh Ssemwanga from his farm.

However Sheikh Segujja, his wife and the mother have been released today, but Sheikh Ssemwanga is still being held, according to sheik Mulindwa.

Since last Tuesday November 16, 2021 when the county was hit in the twin bomb blasts that claimed seven lives and injured 37 others security has arrested and killed a number of suspects said to have been behind the terrorist attack.
