An Investigative joint team of the fire that recently gutted Makerere University has discovered that the fire started from the bottom floor of the Main building not from the top as earlier information indicated.
Addressing journalists at Media Center in Kampala, the Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Spokesperson Charles Twine says that this insight has been received today in meeting held by the Joint Investigative team at the police headquarters in Naguru.
The Joint Investigation team comprises of investigators from UMEME, Makerere University Faculty of Engineering, Police Forensic Services and Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development.
Twine says that the team has further resolved to have another one week conclusive investigations after picking samples to enable them come up with a final report on Makerere University fire.
He says that those to be found criminally behind the fire will be prosecuted.
The fire was report to have covered almost half of the roof of Makerere University’s main building and destroyed some institution’s records.
