The Speaker of Parliament Rebbeca Kadaga has vowed not to support the taxes on mobile money and social media.

The surprise U-turn was announced during a meeting with pharmaceutical society Uganda at parliament where she was called to launch a special run to fight sickle cells.

Kadaga’s position came after the secretary pharmaceutical Society Uganda Samuel Opio pleaded to Parliament to exempt initiative on social media especially those targeting to sensitize and educate Ugandans via internet which Kadaga conquered with saying the taxes violet rights of access to information.

Apparently the tax amendment act 2017 was receded to Parliament for review and parliamentary finance committee is meeting stakeholder for their views on whether the taxes the 0.5% tax on Mobile Money withdrawals and 200/= as Over the Top Service OTT should be retained or abolished
