The Foundation for Human Rights Initiative in Uganda (FHRIU) Executive Director Dr. Livingstone Ssewanyana has appealed to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) to take active participation in the 2021 general elections.

Delivering his key note address at the national commemoration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities at Nakawa division headquarters, Ssewanyana said PWDs must engage in the electoral processes; consider standing for elective positions to get fair representation.

The day that is aimed at sensitizing PWD’s to defend their rights in the society has been commemorated under the theme; “Promoting the participation of people with disabilities and their leadership taking action on the 2030 development agenda“.

The woman Member of Parliament for Kampala Nabbirah Naggayi Ssempala, who was the Chief Guest appealed to older PWD’s to be guardians of the new entrants since disability is not inability.
