President Museveni has praised the late Med Ssozi Kaggwa who has been the chairman Uganda Human Rights Commission UHRC for his exemplary service to the nation.

 

In a message read for him by The Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi, Museveni said the late served Uganda as a patriot not only in the field of human rights but in all matters of national development until his death.

He contributed 10 million Shs as condolences to the grieved family.

 

Chief Justice Bert Katureebe in a short message described the late as a professional person who loved his job and never shied away on truth.

The NRM National Vice Chairman, Haji Moses Kigongo advised leaders in public offices never to serve for their selfish interests because it has always been the precursor of misunderstandings in communities and the country at large.

Buganda Government was represented by Ow’ekitibwa Waggwa Nsibirwa 2nd deputy Katikiro said the country hailed the late for standing for the rights of ugandans and being accountable in his life, a personality Ugandans ought to emulate.

Kaggwa served as a Member of Parliament for Kawempe, a Special Rapporteur on Prisons and Conditions of Detention of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights and a Commissioner of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission.

He also served as a Member of the Constituent Assembly that drafted the 1995 Constitution of Uganda and a Commissioner of the Uganda Constitutional Commission. Additionally, he has been Head of Department of Law at the Law Development Centre and held a Political Office as Minister in Charge of Political Affairs in the Office of the President.

Kaggwa 64, held a master of Laws from the National University of Ireland, a degree of laws from Makerere University and a diploma in practice from the Uganda Law Development Centre.

However the burial ended in a scuffle between the police, journalists and supporters of Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi a member of the people power as he tried to address the media. Eelier on all mourners were checked to ensure that no one entered with people power ballets.
