Pope Francis has entered the second day on his visit to Thailand where he arrived last evening accompany by his cousin Ana Rosa Sivori.

Pope Francis arrived at the Military Air Terminal of Don Muang airport in Bangkok where he was greeted by children in traditional costume and Members of the Salesian Band.

On his delegation are 70 journalists who were assigned to cover his three day trip in Thailand that ends tomorrow and he will precede to Japan where he will also spend three days.

Today Francis is expected to address a number of groups including the head of government, foreign dignitaries, Church and other special groups to ensure cohesion in faith and national development in a country that was predominantly a Buddhist nation but Catholic Missionaries braved the persecution and introduced Christianity a centaury a go.

Poe Francis’s visit will mark the 350th anniversary of the founding of the Mission de Siam and is aimed at promoting inter-religious dialogue, his visit also consides with the 350th anniversary of the creation of a stable apostolic vicariate in Thailand, then known as Siam, after Dominican missionaries first brought the faith to the country in 1567

He comes Thirty-five years after St John Paul II became the first pope to visit Thailand.
